October 3, 2005 -- For the sixth year, Denise Turney, author of the books Portia, Love Has Many Faces and Spiral is hosting and coordinating the Chistell Publishing Poetry and Short Story Writing Competition.
The contest is open to the public. There is no reading fee. Because she believes in the power of written expression, Turney has always picked up the costs involved in administering the contest which is open to a world of readers – a rainbow of writers.
“Perhaps none of us will ever realize the impact, the reach, literature has had and continues to have upon us. Literature shapes our culture, our communities – our lives. To insure there are no financial barriers that prevent members of the global community from entering the contest, I am picking up all costs involved with administering the contest. It has always been our goal to encourage people to think beyond their comfort zones. We encourage readers and writers around the globe to appreciate differences between themselves and others, specifically those from other cultures. It is always an excellent time to do this. We're excited to be a part of a global healing effort. When you think about the power of the written word, the longevity of a story, it only makes very good sense to do this.”
All writers interested in learning more about the contest may do so by contacting Chistell Publishing at – http://www.chistell.com
Featured in Parade, Today's Black Woman, Essence, Sisters In Style, Modern Dad Magazine, Obsidian II, The Pittsburgh Quarterly, The Trenton Times, The Philadelphia Tribune, and The College of New Jersey Literary Review among numerous other publications throughout the nation, Turney has gained recognition for her ability to capture real life scenarios in a manner that enthralls her audience and places them right in the shoes of her characters. Currently the author is putting the finishing touches on her fourth and fifth novels, aptly titled Zoe: What Have We Learned and Run (both books are due out in 2006). “My dream,” shares Turney, “Is to be a writer who brings a multitude of readers stories that stir their hearts, as well as heal, encourage, guide, teach, and support their own dreams!”
Turney's work is featured online at http://www.chistell.com where readers can read the first chapters of her books (including her newest titles) for free.
