A TMJ Sufferer Tells Her Story About Her Pain Relief
According to The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), over 10 million people in the United States suffer from TMJ problems at a given time in their life.
September 27, 2005- Nikki Lalumandier had braces for most of her teenage years. At first, like most typical teenagers, her braces helped her straighten her teeth during the night. But as years went by, stress caused her not only to constantly grind her teeth but also dislocate her jaw. Nikki had Temporomandibular joint disease commonly known as TMJ. TMJ is a poorly understood condition characterized by pain in the jaw and the surrounding tissues. Some of the most common symptoms for TMJ include clicking, popping or grating sounds in jaw joints, headaches or locking of the jaw. With only four years without braces, at the age of 19, Nikki’s dentists recommended braces for her TMJ to not only realign her jaw but due to her condition, also realign her teeth.
According to The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research ( NIDCR ) of the National Institutes of Health ( NIH ), over 10 million people in the United States suffer from TMJ problems at a given time in their life. Nikki’s pain became common in her daily living but unbearable. Nikki says, “ It was horrible. Not only did I have braces for the second time, but I also had a mouthpiece built into my braces. I was so upset.” This procedure not only made it difficult for her to eat, but also made it difficult for her to sing, which is Nikki’s passion.
In her second year with her second pair of braces and her new mouthpiece, Nikki was referred to Envita Natural Medical Center from a friend. Envita focuses on natural, non-toxic, research-based care for many chronic diseases. At Envita, Nikki received Prolotherapy for her joint pain. In Prolotherapy, damaged tissue is injected with a combination of a mild natural irritant and a local anesthetic. By drawing more blood flow to the area, the immune system is stimulated. Prolotherapy is a well-researched and proven non-surgical medical procedure treatment practiced by many highly regarded physicians specializing in pain, rehabilitation and sports medicine. For Nikki, Prolotherapy did a lot of good.
“Prolotherapy received from Envita has helped me tremendously. After two treatments my pain was gone. I do not hesitate to recommend this to anyone suffering like I did. I encourage it,”
Nikki says. Nikki goes on expressing her gratitude for her doctors, “ The doctors at Envita were very attentive and compassionate. They were determined to help me since I had undergone so many other forms of care prior to Envita. I’m glad this finally worked!”
Nikki is just one of the many patients benefiting from Envita’s therapies and treatments. Nikki found the treatments at Envita to be so effective that she took a job at Envita. She shares her knowledge and experience with patients’ everyday by being one of the first faces and voice people come in contact with. She says, “Of course I would recommend others to visit Envita. I even got a job here because of how effective the treatments are and because I wanted to help others receive the same care.” Envita is happy to lead the way in advanced care for patients, allowing them to live a better quality of life.
