Writing like ‘bread and water’ to librarian

The Middletown Press

Judith Westcott, director of the East Haddam Free Public Library, knows her work is an important part of her life.

Ever since she became the library’s director, she knew she had found her niche because her job would allow her to be around the writing and reading she has loved since she was a child.

"I’m a closet writer," Westcott said. "Reading and writing is like bread and water."

Westcott, a reader of The Press since 1958, read the entire collection of the library when she was a child. She now writes poetry and children’s books and has written a song. Her books are about such things as a mouse and secret Santa Claus.
